Google TV Gets Gemini AI Tools and YouTube Shorts Feed

Google is rolling out a fresh batch of features to Google TV, bringing more AI-powered tools and a new short-form video experience directly to the big screen.

At the heart of the update is deeper integration with Gemini. A new “Create” button inside the Gemini tab will let users experiment with generative AI tools like Nano Banana and Veo—turning the living room into a creative playground.

AI Creativity Comes to the TV

The first tool, Nano Banana, focuses on image generation and editing. Using simple voice prompts, users can tweak photos in fun and imaginative ways—changing outfits, swapping backgrounds, or even creating entirely new scenes.

The experience is designed to be social. Google is encouraging users to try playful prompts that can entertain friends and family, making AI a shared, interactive feature rather than a solo activity.

Veo, meanwhile, takes things a step further by enabling video creation. Users can generate short clips from scratch or animate existing images by simply describing what they want to see. It’s a big leap toward making video creation accessible to everyone—no editing skills required.

These features will first roll out on select Gemini-enabled TCL TVs in the U.S., with wider device support expected later.

Smarter Google Photos Experience

Google Photos is also getting a major upgrade on Google TV.

With Gemini-powered search, users can quickly find specific memories—like holidays or birthday parties—without scrolling endlessly through their photo library. The results are displayed in an easy-to-browse format, allowing users to view images full-screen or turn them into slideshows instantly.

New creative options are also being added. A “Remix” feature lets users apply artistic styles such as watercolor or oil painting to their photos. Meanwhile, “Dynamic Slideshows” introduces animated layouts, frames, and color effects, making photo collections more engaging on the big screen.

YouTube Shorts Lands on the Home Screen

Alongside AI features, Google is also embracing short-form content. A new row called “Short videos for you” will soon appear on the Google TV home screen, starting with content from YouTube Shorts.

This move highlights Google’s push to bring quick, snackable content into the TV experience. While short-form videos are typically associated with mobile devices, the company is betting they’ll also resonate in the living room.

Interestingly, this comes shortly after YouTube introduced an option to hide Shorts on mobile, reflecting mixed user preferences. Still, Google appears confident in expanding the format across devices—and may even bring in content from other platforms over time.

A More Interactive Living Room

With these updates, Google TV is evolving beyond just streaming. By combining AI creativity, smarter photo browsing, and short-form video, Google is turning the TV into a more interactive and personalized hub.

As these features roll out, the line between entertainment, creativity, and AI continues to blur—right from the comfort of your couch.
