Google Launches $9.99 AI Health Coach on May 19

Google is expanding deeper into digital health with the launch of a new AI-powered wellness coach tied to its revamped fitness platform. Starting May 19, the company will roll out the new service as part of its rebranded Google Health app, previously known as the Fitbit app.

The announcement arrived alongside the unveiling of the new Fitbit Air fitness band, a lightweight wearable designed to compete with devices like Whoop. Together, the updates signal Google’s growing push to build a more connected AI-driven fitness and health ecosystem following its acquisition of Fitbit in 2021.

Powered by Google’s Gemini AI technology, the new Google Health Coach is designed to act as a personalized fitness trainer, sleep advisor, and wellness assistant all in one. The feature has been in public preview since last year, with Google saying it refined the experience using feedback from early users.

The AI coach will be included with the new Google Health Premium subscription, which replaces Fitbit Premium. Pricing is set at $9.99 per month or $99 annually. Subscribers to Google AI Pro and Ultra plans will receive Health Premium access at no additional cost.

According to Google, personalization is at the center of the experience.

During setup, users will answer questions about fitness goals, daily habits, available workout equipment, injuries, and lifestyle preferences. The AI then uses that information to generate customized recommendations and health insights.

Users can also interact with the coach using natural language commands. That means workouts, meals, and health records can be logged simply by speaking, uploading photos, or sharing files. The system can also adapt over time as users update goals or routines.

The coach will appear directly within the Today tab of the Google Health app, but Google says its AI features extend across the platform. Workout suggestions in the Fitness tab, sleep analysis in the Sleep tab, and overall wellness summaries in the Health tab will all incorporate AI-generated guidance.

Google added that the system pulls together data from multiple sources—not just step counts or exercise tracking. Insights may include sleep quality, nutrition, environmental factors, cycle tracking, mental well-being, and even U.S. medical records if users choose to connect them.

Several health-related features have also been redesigned specifically around the AI experience, including nutrition tracking, cycle monitoring, and mental wellness tools.

Initially, the AI health coach will launch for select Fitbit and Pixel Watch users, with broader device support planned later. However, anyone will be able to download the Google Health app and sign up for future access notifications.

The move highlights how aggressively major tech companies are integrating AI into everyday wellness products, turning health apps into increasingly personalized digital assistants rather than simple fitness trackers.
