Apple TV Raises Subscription Prices Again
3 min read
Apple TV subscribers are about to pay more, marking the fourth subscription price increase in four years for Apple’s streaming service.
The monthly price of an Apple TV subscription is increasing to $14.99, up from $12.99. Customers who prefer an annual plan will also see a higher bill, with the yearly subscription rising from $99 to $119.
Apple is also increasing the price of its Apple One bundle. The plan, which combines services including iCloud+, Apple TV, Apple Music and Apple Arcade, will now cost $21.95 per month, compared with the previous price of $19.95.
Apple Joins a Broader Streaming Price Hike
Apple’s latest increase comes as consumers across the streaming industry continue to face higher subscription costs.
Netflix raised its prices in March, while Peacock announced another price increase earlier this month. The changes reflect a broader trend among major entertainment companies as they look for ways to increase revenue from their growing subscriber bases.
For consumers who subscribe to multiple streaming platforms, even relatively small price increases can quickly add up.
Apple TV’s latest adjustment also comes alongside rising costs across the technology industry. Hardware companies are dealing with ongoing shortages of RAM and other components, partly driven by the huge demand for hardware used to build AI data centers.
That pressure is affecting technology companies beyond streaming services, with hardware prices also rising as demand for AI infrastructure continues to grow.
Apple TV Has Raised Prices Four Times
The latest increase is notable because it represents the fourth time in four years that Apple has raised the price of Apple TV.
The service has become an increasingly important part of Apple’s broader services business, giving customers access to original movies and television shows alongside the company’s growing collection of digital services.
For Apple, bundling TV with services such as Music, Arcade and iCloud+ through Apple One provides another way to encourage customers to remain within its ecosystem.
The higher Apple One price means subscribers will now have to pay an additional $2 per month compared with the previous rate.
A Big iPhone Announcement Is Coming
Despite the latest price increase, Apple’s relationship with consumers may not face much long-term damage.
The company is preparing for one of its biggest product announcements of the year. Apple is expected to unveil its newest iPhone lineup on September 9.
The upcoming announcement is particularly significant because the new lineup is likely to include Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
The potential arrival of a foldable iPhone could generate substantial attention and give Apple fans something new to focus on just as subscription prices are going up.
For now, however, Apple TV subscribers will have to adjust to another increase.
With the monthly plan moving to $14.99 and the annual subscription reaching $119, Apple’s streaming service is becoming more expensive at a time when several of its competitors are making similar moves.
As streaming companies continue to raise prices and technology costs remain under pressure from AI infrastructure demand, consumers may increasingly have to decide which subscriptions are worth keeping.
