Northwood Space Raises $375M at a $2B Valuation in Series C

Northwood Space, a company developing satellite communication infrastructure, has raised $375 million in a Series C funding round, bringing its valuation to $2 billion. The latest investment was announced Monday, with Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and DFJ Growth leading the round.

The funding marks a major milestone for the startup as it looks to expand its technology, strengthen its operations and meet growing demand for satellite communication infrastructure.

Northwood Space Focuses on Improving Satellite Communications

Founded in 2022, Northwood Space develops antennas, software and other technologies designed to improve communication between satellites and Earth. Its infrastructure aims to make satellite communication systems more efficient and reliable.

The company is led by CEO and co-founder Bridgit Mendler, who previously worked as an actress before moving into the space technology industry. Under her leadership, Northwood has been building solutions to support the growing needs of the satellite industry.

As satellite networks continue to expand, reliable ground-based infrastructure has become increasingly important. Northwood is working to address this need by developing technologies that help satellites connect with Earth more effectively.

Previous Funding and U.S. Space Force Contract

The latest $375 million investment comes just months after Northwood secured significant financial backing in its previous funding round.

In January, the company raised $100 million in a Series B round, which was also co-led by Andreessen Horowitz. Alongside that investment, Northwood secured a contract worth nearly $50 million with the U.S. Space Force.

As previously reported by TechCrunch, the contract involves upgrading the nation’s satellite control network, highlighting the company’s growing role in supporting government and defense-related space infrastructure.

The new Series C funding builds on that momentum and provides additional resources for the company to expand its capabilities.

HSBC Agreement to Support Future Growth

In addition to the equity investment, Northwood Space has entered into a financial agreement with HSBC. The company plans to use this arrangement alongside its newly raised capital to support its next stage of growth.

According to the startup, the funding will help expand its operations, bring in new employees and fulfill existing customer contracts.

The combination of fresh investment and financial support is expected to give Northwood more resources to scale its business as demand for satellite communication services continues to develop.

Northwood Space Targets the Growing Space Infrastructure Market

Northwood’s latest funding round reflects investor interest in companies building the infrastructure needed to support the expanding space industry.

While satellite launches and space exploration often receive much of the attention, ground-based communication systems play an equally important role. Satellites need dependable infrastructure on Earth to transmit information, receive commands and maintain communication networks.

With a $2 billion valuation and $375 million in new funding, Northwood Space is positioning itself for further expansion in this market.

The company now plans to focus on scaling its technology, hiring talent and delivering on its existing contracts as it continues developing its satellite communication infrastructure.
