Meta Launches Reddit-Style Groups App ‘Forum’

Meta has quietly introduced a new standalone app called , signaling another push into community-focused social platforms.

The new app is designed around Facebook Groups and appears to borrow several ideas from Reddit. Meta describes Forum as a “dedicated space built for deeper discussions, real answers and communities you care about.”

The app was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra.

After signing in with a Facebook account, users can access their existing groups, profiles, and activity directly inside Forum. The platform also allows people to post using nicknames, similar to the standard Facebook experience.

Meta clarified that groups will continue to exist on Facebook itself, and any content shared through Forum will also appear within the connected Facebook groups.

Focused on Conversations Instead of Trends

Unlike traditional social feeds that prioritize viral content and trending posts, Forum is centered around ongoing group discussions.

Meta says the app is designed to help users see “what real people are saying, not just what’s trending,” while also making it easier to continue conversations where they previously left off.

One of the app’s main features is an AI-powered “Ask” tab. The tool lets users submit questions and receive answers generated from discussions happening across different groups.

Forum also includes an AI assistant aimed at helping administrators moderate communities, manage discussions, and handle group-related tasks more efficiently.

Meta Tries Group Apps Again

This is not the first time Meta has experimented with standalone apps for groups.

Back in 2014, Facebook released a dedicated Groups app focused on helping users communicate and share content across communities. However, the company eventually shut the app down in 2017.

Forum now arrives as part of Meta’s broader strategy to release more standalone apps powered by AI tools and automation.

Just last month, Meta launched another app called Instants, which allows users to share disappearing photos with Instagram friends.

The company has reportedly been accelerating app development internally. According to a recent report from The Wall Street Journal, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees that AI-driven efficiencies are making it easier for the company to create more apps at a faster pace.

Referring to Meta’s Chief Product Officer Chris Cox, Zuckerberg reportedly said the company has discussed whether it could build “50 new apps,” although he suggested Meta would likely start with only a few before scaling aggressively.

Critics Say Meta Is Copying Competitors

Despite Meta’s push into new products, critics argue many of the company’s recent apps heavily borrow ideas from competitors.

Instants, for example, combines elements similar to BeReal and Snapchat.

Meanwhile, Meta’s editing app Meta Edits has drawn comparisons to CapCut, owned by ByteDance.

With Forum, Meta now appears to be targeting Reddit-style online communities while leaning heavily on AI-powered discussion tools and group engagement features.

Meta has not yet publicly commented further on the app’s rollout or long-term plans for Forum.
