Sachin Bansal’s Navi Secures $100M Investment From Prosus

Indian fintech startup Navi has secured $100 million from global technology investor Prosus, giving the eight-year-old company its first institutional investment. The deal marks a major funding milestone for Navi, which was founded by Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal after his exit from the e-commerce giant.
The investment puts Navi’s valuation at roughly $1.3 billion, according to people familiar with the matter. That is notably below the approximately $2 billion valuation the Bengaluru-based fintech was targeting when it began seeking institutional capital in 2024.
Founded in 2018, Navi has built a broad financial services business spanning digital payments, consumer lending, insurance and mutual funds.
Bansal launched the company after leaving Flipkart following Walmart’s acquisition of a majority stake in the e-commerce business.
The Prosus investment arrives at an important point for Navi as the company reportedly prepares for a potential public listing. The fintech is expected to seek around ₹30 billion, or roughly $314 million, through an initial public offering.
Navi had previously filed plans for a $440 million IPO in 2022. However, the company dropped those plans the following year as challenging market conditions and a slowdown in IPO activity made public listings less attractive.
Bansal’s journey with Navi began after his departure from Flipkart, which he co-founded with Binny Bansal in 2007. The pair transformed what started as an online bookseller into one of India’s biggest e-commerce companies. Sachin Bansal sold his stake and left the business in 2018, shortly before Walmart completed its $16 billion deal to acquire a majority interest in Flipkart.
After launching Navi, Bansal invested hundreds of millions of dollars of his own wealth into the business. His long-term ambition has been to turn the fintech into a bank.
Navi’s financial performance shows both growth and continued pressure on profitability. For the financial year ending March 2026, the company reported revenue of ₹30.91 billion, or about $323.33 million. At the same time, its net loss increased to ₹4.66 billion, approximately $48.74 million.
Its consumer-facing app has also become a significant player in India’s digital payments market. Navi supports payments through the government-backed Unified Payments Interface, or UPI. Based on transaction volumes, it ranks as India’s fourth-largest UPI app, behind Walmart-owned PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm.
According to data published by the National Payments Corporation of India, Navi processed more than 947 million UPI transactions in July. Those transactions were worth ₹483.18 billion, or approximately $5.05 billion.
Navi’s lending business is another major part of its operations. Navi Finserv, the company’s lending arm, has more than ₹130 billion, or around $1.4 billion, in assets under management. The startup also says its services reach hundreds of millions of users across India.
The company reported reaching consolidated profitability in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, adding another positive development as it moves toward its potential IPO.
Bansal described Prosus’ investment as a “strong endorsement” of the financial institution Navi is building. He also highlighted Prosus’ global perspective and experience in scaling technology businesses as valuable to Navi.
The investment is still subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Bansal did not comment on Navi’s reported $1.3 billion valuation.
