Prime Intellect Lands $130M to Power Enterprise AI Agents

AI infrastructure startup Prime Intellect has secured $130 million in Series A funding, reaching a $1 billion valuation as demand grows for enterprise AI systems that organizations can build and control themselves.

The funding round was led by Radical Ventures, with additional backing from Nvidia Ventures, Intel Capital, Dell Technologies Capital, Iconiq, and a group of well-known angel investors. Among them are Aravind Srinivas of Perplexity, Aaron Levie of Box, Winston Weinberg of Harvey, Jeff Wang of Cognition, and Brendan Foody of Mercor.

Founded in 2024, Prime Intellect aims to help businesses develop their own AI agents instead of relying entirely on major AI providers. The company believes recent advances in reinforcement learning have made this goal far more realistic than it was only a few years ago.

Reinforcement learning enables AI models to improve through repeated feedback, rewarding successful outcomes while reducing mistakes. This approach allows companies to fine-tune AI systems for their own business needs, effectively giving them the ability to operate like their own AI research lab.

While the technology is becoming more accessible, building a complete AI training environment remains highly complex. Many organizations still lack the technical expertise needed to combine computing resources, software frameworks, and evaluation tools into a production-ready platform.

Prime Intellect is positioning itself as the solution to that challenge.

The startup offers what it describes as a full-stack platform for AI agent development. Its platform combines access to computing infrastructure, reinforcement learning frameworks, and model evaluation tools into a single ecosystem.

Rather than forcing customers into a fixed software package, Prime Intellect uses a marketplace-style model. Businesses can select only the components they need, giving them greater flexibility while avoiding vendor lock-in.

According to David Katz, a partner at Radical Ventures, Prime Intellect has managed to combine advanced AI capabilities into an affordable platform. He said many companies provide individual pieces of the AI development process, but Prime Intellect stands out by offering a complete, one-stop environment that delivers capabilities similar to those of leading AI research labs.

The company’s approach is already attracting major customers, including Ramp, Zapier, and Flapping Airplanes. These businesses subscribe to a hosted version of Prime Intellect’s platform, helping the startup reach an annualized revenue run rate of $100 million.

One example comes from fintech company Ramp, which used Prime Intellect’s tools to build an AI agent capable of finding information within spreadsheets. According to Ramp co-founder and co-CEO Karim Atiyeh, the resulting system outperformed frontier AI models in accuracy while operating faster and at a significantly lower cost.

Prime Intellect also believes concerns around data ownership are driving more enterprises toward self-managed AI systems.

Many businesses are becoming cautious about sharing proprietary information with companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic. There is also growing concern about depending on third-party AI models that could become unavailable unexpectedly, as illustrated by Anthropic’s Fable being turned off last month.

David Katz said these concerns are encouraging organizations to think more seriously about controlling their own AI infrastructure rather than depending on external providers.

Prime Intellect co-founder and CEO Vincent Weisser shares that vision. He believes AI model training should not be limited to a handful of elite research organizations but should instead become accessible to businesses and governments around the world.

With fresh funding, a growing customer base, and increasing enterprise demand for independent AI infrastructure, Prime Intellect is betting that the future of enterprise AI belongs to organizations that own, train, and manage their own intelligent systems.
