Eight Sleep Launches Smaller Pod 6 Starting at $1,999

Sleep technology company Eight Sleep has introduced its latest temperature-control system, the Pod 6, with a smaller design aimed at fitting more bed frames. The company is also offering new solo sizes for people who sleep alone, expanding the range of setups supported by the device.

The new Pod 6 was launched Wednesday and is available in more than 37 countries. Prices start at $1,999 for solo sizes and $2,699 for standard sizes.

One of the biggest changes is the device’s smaller footprint. Eight Sleep says the Pod 6 takes up 50% less space than previous versions, allowing it to fit most bed frames.

Faster Temperature Control and More Sensors

The Pod 6 is designed to give users more precise control over their sleeping temperature. According to Eight Sleep, the system can adjust the temperature on each side of the bed 20% faster than the previous-generation device.

The company has also increased the number of sensors in the system by nine times. These additional sensors are designed to give Pod 6 a more detailed understanding of each sleeper’s temperature needs, even when two people are sleeping close together.

Another feature is the system’s ability to distinguish between users and other people or animals on the bed. Eight Sleep says the Pod 6 can ignore data coming from a pet or child sleeping alongside two primary users.

The new solo versions are designed for Twin beds as well as one side of Queen, King, and California King beds. Standard versions will be offered for Queen, King, and California King sizes.

The Pod 6 is also compatible with existing Eight Sleep accessories, including its blanket, pillow cover, and base.

Eight Sleep Looks Beyond Consumer Sleep Tech

The company is also working to move further into the medical side of sleep technology. Eight Sleep is pursuing U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval to transition its Pod system into a regulated medical device designed for sleep apnea.

The company has been expanding its business internationally as well. Earlier this year, Eight Sleep raised $50 million from Tether at a $1.5 billion valuation.

Over the past year, the company launched its products in several new markets, including China, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Singapore. China has since become one of Eight Sleep’s fastest-growing regions.

CEO Matteo Franceschetti told TechCrunch that international markets now account for more than 30% of the company’s revenue. He also said Eight Sleep plans to expand into additional markets across Asia and Latin America.

AI Adds Another Supply Chain Challenge

The company is also keeping an eye on changes in the electronics supply chain. Franceschetti said the growing demand for components from AI companies is creating a market that Eight Sleep needs to monitor closely.

As the company’s products become more computationally intensive and incorporate more AI-based features, managing component supply will become increasingly important.

Franceschetti said Eight Sleep is already making adjustments to its supply chain to respond to those changes, although the company has not said whether current component pressures will affect Pod 6 pricing.

For now, the Pod 6 represents Eight Sleep’s latest attempt to combine more precise temperature sensing, a smaller physical design, and increasingly intelligent features in its sleep technology lineup.
