YouTube Music Adds AI Tools for Smarter Music and Podcast Discovery

YouTube Music is getting a new set of AI-powered features designed to make finding music and podcasts more natural and personalized. Instead of relying only on traditional search, listeners will soon be able to describe what they want in everyday language and let AI help build the experience.

The company announced the new features during this year’s Made On YouTube event. The updates include Ask Music, a conversational AI tool for music and podcasts, and Your Podcast Lineup, a personalized audio guide that helps users discover podcast shows and episodes they might otherwise overlook.

Ask Music Turns Music Search Into a Conversation

The new Ask Music feature is built directly into the YouTube Music app. Rather than searching for individual tracks, albums, or artists, users can simply describe what they are looking for, much like asking a friend for a recommendation.

Ask Music can work across YouTube Music’s catalog of more than 300 million songs. That catalog includes official recordings as well as remixes, live performances, covers, and DJ sets.

The feature can be used for more than just creating playlists. For example, a listener could ask the AI to create a custom mix featuring songs that influenced a particular track. Users can also use it to explore an artist’s background or learn more about how a song was created.

Questions can get more specific, too. Someone curious about a particular recording could ask who played bass on the song or explore other details connected to its production and history.

The idea is to make music discovery feel less like entering keywords into a search box and more like having a conversation about what you want to hear.

AI Also Takes Aim at Podcast Discovery

YouTube Music is introducing another AI feature called Your Podcast Lineup, which focuses on helping users find podcasts and keep up with new episodes.

With thousands of shows and new episodes being released regularly, discovering something worthwhile can be difficult. Even people who already follow several podcasts may not have enough time to keep up with everything, while discovering completely new shows can be even harder.

Your Podcast Lineup is designed to address that problem. The feature will appear on the podcast page inside the YouTube Music app and will create a short, personalized spoken guide each week.

The guide will preview recommended podcast shows and explain why they may be relevant to the listener. After the introduction, users can move directly into suggested episodes.

YouTube Follows a Wider AI Trend

YouTube’s move comes as other audio platforms are also experimenting with AI-powered discovery. Spotify, for example, recently introduced a personal podcasts feature that uses AI to generate podcast episodes based on users’ interests and prompts.

The latest YouTube Music updates are also part of the company’s broader effort to bring AI into its services. Last year, YouTube Music experimented with AI-powered music hosts that could provide stories, fan trivia, and commentary connected to the music users were playing.

Both Ask Music and Your Podcast Lineup are expected to roll out soon to YouTube Music and YouTube Premium subscribers worldwide, giving users new AI-based ways to discover music, artists, podcasts, and episodes.
