TeamSense Raises $19.5M to Expand Employee Attendance Platform

Seattle-area workforce software startup TeamSense has secured $19.5 million in new funding, according to a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as the company continues to grow its employee attendance and communication platform.
The fresh investment marks another milestone for the startup, which has evolved significantly since its launch during the COVID-19 pandemic.
While TeamSense CEO Sheila Stafford declined to comment on the fundraising when contacted by GeekWire, the SEC filing confirms the company has attracted additional capital to support its next phase of growth.
From COVID-19 Tool to Workforce Management Platform
TeamSense was launched in 2020 after emerging from a joint innovation studio created by Pioneer Square Labs, the Seattle-based startup studio, and Fortive, the Everett, Washington-based industrial technology company.
Initially, the software was designed to help employers monitor COVID-19 symptoms among employees returning to workplaces during the pandemic.
As business needs changed, TeamSense expanded its platform into a text message-based workforce communication system focused on employee attendance reporting and real-time absence management.
Today, employees can quickly notify their employers via text when they are unable to report for work. Managers receive immediate alerts, while attendance data is automatically recorded for human resources teams.
Designed for Frontline Workers
Unlike many traditional HR systems that require employees to log into dedicated portals or apps, TeamSense emphasizes simple text messaging to make absence reporting easier for frontline workers.
The platform also includes automatic language translation, helping companies communicate with multilingual workforces more effectively.
To streamline HR operations, TeamSense integrates with several widely used human resources platforms, including Workday, Zenefits, ADP, and other enterprise systems.
The company primarily serves organizations in industries such as manufacturing and logistics, where efficient workforce scheduling and attendance tracking play a critical role in daily operations.
Growth Since Fortive Acquisition
Fortive acquired TeamSense in 2021, but the startup has operated independently since 2022, with Fortive continuing as a minority investor.
The company has steadily expanded its business while maintaining operational independence following the acquisition.
According to LinkedIn, TeamSense currently employs around 30 people.
Prior to the latest fundraising, the startup raised $4 million in 2023 from Bonfire Ventures and Operator Collective, providing additional capital to accelerate product development and business growth.
Experienced Leadership
TeamSense is led by CEO Sheila Stafford, an experienced technology executive with leadership roles at several major companies before joining the startup.
Her background includes executive positions at Fluke, Whirlpool, and General Motors (GM), bringing extensive operational and product leadership experience to the growing software company.
Expanding Workforce Technology
As employers increasingly seek digital tools to improve communication with frontline employees, platforms like TeamSense are becoming an important part of workforce management.
By simplifying attendance reporting through text messaging while integrating with existing HR software, the company aims to reduce administrative workloads and improve communication between employees, managers, and HR teams.
With $19.5 million in fresh funding now secured, TeamSense appears well positioned to continue expanding its workforce management platform and strengthen its presence in the employee communication software market.
